I have a repro using sparklyr but likely to be possible to repro this through c++ bindings:

DBI::dbGetQuery(sc, "SELECT cast(NULL as bigint)")

Actual:

  CAST(NULL AS BIGINT)

Expected:

  CAST(NULL AS BIGINT)
1                   NA
