Zip and Tar tasks failing

Good Evening Everyone,

I've hit a rather strange situation whilst releasing some artifacts.
Specifically the strange part of this relates to the tar, tar-bin, zip
and zip-bin targets in the following build.xml file [0].

I released another version (release-1.5) literally an hour ago, now
when using the exact same targets within an almost identical build
file for a completely different distribution I get the dreaded
'Nothing to do $/path/to/tar.gz is up to date' when dealing with the
tar.gz's and ''Warning: skipping file $/path/to/.zip because no files
were included'.

I made no commits to the build.xml from when I ran the task
successfully on the other project... now I'm really stumped.

Some specifics
Ant 1.8.0 compiled on May 9 2010 (debian package)

I've seen from some posts on user@ that this may be related to the
'includes' attribute, however I'm puzzled as to why it worked for one
project then changed and rejects the task for another...

Any help would be really appreciated.

Kind Regards

Lewis

Can you show us a verbose log of one of the "failing" targets? Just
looking at the build file without knowing the values of dist.dir and
final.name it is difficult to diagnose. dist.dir might be empty or
final.name might not be matching any files inside dist.dir (it is a path
relative to dist.dir, right?).

Hi Stefan,

I will be able to post more verbose output later today when I get back
to the local box I do my releases from. Please see my comments inline

This is not intended to be a minus it is merely meant to act as a
hyphen solely to satisfy aesthetic requirements. This was so we could
have zip's and tar's like
nutch-$version-bin.zip, nutch-$version-src.zip etc

I will certainly take this on board and will update this thread later
on today when I get a chance to get a crack at it.

Thank you for your replies

pressed send to soon.

>From reading your build file

${dist.version.dir}=${dist.dir}/${final.name}

You copy stuff to ${dist.version.dir}-bin (note the minus) and then try
to include them in your tar task from ${dist.dir}/${final.name}/
(excluding ${dist.dir}/${final.name}/bin/) But that directory doesn't
even exist.

Your "-" and "/" disagree with each other. You want to exclude
${final.name}-bin/ and include ${final.name}-src/ or ${final.name}*/
