Podling Mesatee Report Reminder - November 2019

Dear podling,

This email was sent by an automated system on behalf of the Apache
Incubator PMC. It is an initial reminder to give you plenty of time to
prepare your quarterly board report.

The board meeting is scheduled for Wed, 20 November 2019, 10:30 am PDT.
The report for your podling will form a part of the Incubator PMC
report. The Incubator PMC requires your report to be submitted 2 weeks
before the board meeting, to allow sufficient time for review and
submission (Wed, November 06).

Please submit your report with sufficient time to allow the Incubator
PMC, and subsequently board members to review and digest. Again, the
very latest you should submit your report is 2 weeks prior to the board
meeting.

Candidate names should not be made public before people are actually
elected, so please do not include the names of potential committers or
PPMC members in your report.

Thanks,

The Apache Incubator PMC

Submitting your Report

----------------------

Your report should contain the following:

*   Your project name
* A brief description of your project, which assumes no knowledge of
the project or necessarily of its field
* A list of the three most important issues to address in the move
    towards graduation.
* Any issues that the Incubator PMC or ASF Board might wish/need to be
    aware of
* How has the community developed since the last report
* How has the project developed since the last report.
* How does the podling rate their own maturity.

This should be appended to the Incubator Wiki page at:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INCUBATOR/November2019

Note: This is manually populated. You may need to wait a little before
this page is created from a template.

Note: The format of the report has changed to use markdown.

Mentors
-------

Mentors should review reports for their project(s) and sign them off on
the Incubator wiki page. Signing off reports shows that you are
following the project - projects that are not signed may raise alarms
for the Incubator PMC.

Hi Justin,

Updated the report again. Added something around the slow bootstrapping and lack of conversation, and some acknowledgements. Hope it looks better :-)

Best,
Yu

In order to grow a community around you project all conversation needs to be in the open on the mailing list.

Hi,

> I just updated the report. Could you please review it again? Thank you very much!

Next time try and make the report a collaborative effort among the PPMC. That way it less likely that important things will get missed.

The report is better thanks. I still think there are omissions that should be mentioned e.g. Slow startup, lack of conversation of the dev list and off list communication. If things are not discusses on the mailing list then your mentors can't help, if they are not put in IPMC reports then the Incubator can't help. In order to grow a community around you project all conversation needs to be in the open on the mailing list.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,

I wrote this report.

a) yes it is copied from Doris just for format reason. I filled in info about MesaTEE.
b) let me rewrite it.
c) I do forget about including the renaming issue here. could I update it now?

The reason why we haven't resolve the issue is that in a previous thread, we were instructed to move forward.
https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/e8578779b581f05095ff5549161f2c21480aa37dafd3a6277589ea11@%3Cprivate.mesatee.apache.org%3E <https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/e8578779b581f05095ff5549161f2c21480aa37dafd3a6277589ea11@%3Cprivate.mesatee.apache.org%3E>

Could I update the report again to solve the above issues? Thanks!

Best,
Yu

HI,

Looking a little deeper at your report it seems the report still needs some work:
a) The report was copied form Doris
b) the community growth section contains information about project development It would be best it this was rewritten/moved.
c) It contains omissions about the renaming of the project (why is this being done?) and other things.

The report needs to accurately reflect the state of the project and the what is going on. If I was a mentor off this project I wouldn't sign it off and ask for more information to be added.

I also very curious to why a new name wasn't chosen before starting incubation or this listed as an issue in the proposal. Renaming projects is not trivial and it best that it is only done once or not at all.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi,

I notice this question didn't get an answer:
Are there any issues that the IPMC or ASF Board need to be aware of?

Can you please answer it.

Thanks,
Justin
