This issue was reviewed as part of the JIRA-migrated backlog triage.
Findings: this improvement targets split generation in the Presto-Hudi connector, whose code lives in the prestodb/presto repository (the presto-hudi module, e.g. HudiSplitManager) - apache/hudi does not host any Presto connector code, so the change cannot land in this repo. A search of prestodb/presto found no merged PR implementing rowgroup-based split generation for Hudi base files, so the ask itself may still be valid there. The underlying JIRA (HUDI-5841, created 2023-02-23) has had no activity or comments since creation.
This is not actionable in apache/hudi - closing here as out of scope. Please file or follow up on this enhancement in the prestodb/presto repository where the connector's split-generation logic is maintained.
