[jira] [Commented] (YARN-1029) Allow embedding leader election into the RM

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-1029?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13729969#comment-13729969 ]

Aaron T. Myers commented on YARN-1029:
--------------------------------------

Just to be completely explicit, this is being presented as an alternative to using a separate ZKFC daemon?

FWIW, in HDFS we deliberately opted to not do this so that the ZKFC could be completely logically separate from the NN, and so that the ZKFC could one day be made to monitor garbage collections and potentially not trigger a failover if one of those were going on. We have yet to get to the latter.

> It should be possible to embed common ActiveStandyElector into the RM such that ZooKeeper based leader election and notification is in-built. In conjunction with a ZK state store, this configuration will be a simple deployment option.
