Tomcat 7.0.x and Tomcat 8.0.x java compatibility (Later defination)

As per documentation Tomcat 7.0.x support Java 6 and later
and Tomcat 8.0.x support Java 7 and later. I want to understand "later"
meaning here. Is it for minor or major version?

It means
Tomcat 7.0.x support Java 6, 7, 8 etc.
Tomcat 8.0.x support Java 7,8, etc.
