[AXIS2] I am planning to proceed for the 1.6 release
Folks,
I am planning to proceed for the axis2 1.6 release from the 1.6 branch. I
hope there are no more changes to be done for the 1.6.0 release

As I said this really helped.
In addition to the steps mentioned in this guide I had to do one additional
thing, which is to manually change some versions on the sample modules. As
that has not been picked up by the maven release plugin. I didn't want to
edit the guide to add this step as that is not really a scalable approach to
the issue at hand. We need to some how let the maven release plugin know
that these sample's versions need to be changed too.
I guess the main problem there was that all the samples poms do not refer to
the axis2 parent as it's parent. I guess that has historical reasons where
people wanted to just build the samples, without taking the hassle of all
the axis2 dependencies. I guess that is a separate problem that needs to be
addressed separately and what we have done is not exactly the solution for
that, which introduces lot of maintenance headaches.

Yes, we should be ready now for the 1.6.0 release. One final point: I
documented [1] the release process that I used for the 1.5.x releases.
The process should also apply to 1.6.0. Can you make sure that after
the release, this document is up to date (i.e. either follow the
process as is, or if you do it differently, update the document)? A
well documented process should make it easier for us to recruit
release managers in the future.

I had this OSGi bundle versions as a fact when I was branching. I think for
the consistency it is good to have the same version number on both bundle as
well as on the jar artifacts.

this should be done (simultaneous releases, an additional release of a
distribution that bundles Axis2, Rampart, Sandesha2 and the
transports, or merging the projects into a single build), the minimum
requirement would be to synchronize at least the major version
numbers. For Rampart there is no issue because the next version number
would be 1.6(.0) anyway. However, for Sandesha2 and Axis2 transports,
this would mean that we have to skip a couple of version numbers. By
changing the convention and using 1.6.0 for all four releases, we make
it clearer that there is a discontinuity in our versioning scheme.
Therefore, my proposal is to keep 1.6.0 for Axis2, change the version

To be frank, I didn't check for the convention that the axis2 has been
using.
Since we normally have releases of 3 decimal points, I though keeping the 3
decimal behaviour for all the releases would be good. For example, we do not
call the 1.0 just 1 as we expect to go for a 1.x releases, in the same
manner I thought it is good to call it 1.6.0. Anyway I am completely fine
with 1.6 as well.
Do you want me to change it to 1.6?
