1.6.0 up for testing/signing

I'm pleased to announce that Subversion 1.6.0 "Hammerhead" is up for
testing and
signing. The magic revision is r36650. You can find the tarballs here:

http://orac.ece.utexas.edu/pub/svn/1.6.0/

This is the proposed final tarball for 1.6.0, and has been created
from the same magic revision as 1.6.0-rc4. If you tested and signed
that tarball, and are comfortable with doing so, you may examine the
diff between 1.6.0 and 1.6.0-rc4 to ensure I didn't do anything
nefarious, and sign the new tarball without testing. I'm shooting for
a morning release tomorrow, so please attempt to sign expeditiously.

[Oh, and PLEASE REVIEW AND UPDATE THE RELEASE NOTES while you're at it.]

You know the drill: signatures from full committers back to me, and
enthusiastic tester feedback is welcome. At this point, this
candidate is not yet blessed for wide release, so please don't make it
available to people not interested in test-driving the new release.

Distro package maintainers, please do NOT include any pre-release
builds, even blessed, into operating system distros. The reasons for
not doing so were very eloquently outlined by Karl in a mail, which is
summarized at the above address.

The quick version is: we don't guarantee compatibility between the pre-
releases and the final release, so if people install the release
candidate, all their repositories and working copies might break
irreparably when they upgrade to 1.6.0 proper. We don't want that
kind of bad publicity, and neither do you.

-Hyrum

Other than the expected differences in svn_version.h and www/HACKING,

http://orac.ece.utexas.edu/pub/svn/1.6.0/hammerhead/subversion-1.6.0.zip

is identical to

http://orac.ece.utexas.edu/pub/svn/1.6.0-rc4/marlin/subversion-1.6.0-rc4.zip

is identical to

http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/branches/1.6.x@36650

which I've already tested as stated here:
http://svn.haxx.se/dev/archive-2009-03/0569.shtml.

This product includes software developed by CollabNet (http://www.Collab.Net/).

The following repository access (RA) modules are available:

* ra_neon : Module for accessing a repository via WebDAV protocol using Neon.
  - handles 'http' scheme
  - handles 'https' scheme

Basic and cross-realm GSSAPI still work with https and svn.
This is linked against apr 1.3.3, neon 0.28.3, Cyrus SASL 2.1.22,
and heimdal 1.0.1.

I'll try to test the server later today.

Summary:

  +1 to release (Debian GNU/Linux).

Paranoia:

  Verified md5sums and sha1sums.

Verified that *.bz2 and *.gz were signed with Hyrum's key 4E24517C.

Verified that *.bz2 vs *.gz uncompress to exactly the same tarball,
  for both deps and non-deps.

Verified that the trees in the deps tarball exactly match the releases
they claim to match, by downloading from upstream and comparing:
  apr-1.3.3, apr-util-1.3.4, neon-0.28.3, serf-0.3.0, zlib-1.2.3.

Environment:

Debian GNU/Linux ('testing' distro, very recently dist-upgraded)
  Linux 2.6.26-1-686 #1 SMP Sat Jan 10 18:29:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Dependencies:

  APR / APR-UTIL 1.3.3
  Apache/2.2.9 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.9 OpenSSL/0.9.8g DAV/2 SVN/1.6.0
  Neon 0.28.3
  Serf r1218 (0.3.1 development sources)

Tested:

  [ fsfs ] x [ ra_local | ra_svn | ra_neon | ra_serf ]

Results:

  All tests passed.
