I've experienced the following problem with Tomcat 6.0.14 startup
script for Windows. The script just exits silently on my machine and
Tomcat does not start.
Small investigation shown that the problem is in error level after
setclasspath.bat call from catalina.bat. Line 101 of catalina.bat
always detects an error and exits.
However setclasspath.bat does not print any error and exits as
expected through "end" label.
The following patch fixes the situation:

But the patch is simple and will not break anything.
At the same time it will fix some "odd environments" for users which do not have
enough experience to make the same investigation as I did on silently exit script..
So why not to apply the patch?

1. I can't reproduce this on a clean installation.
2. Only you have reported the problem.
3. We don't apply patches, regardless of size or impact, to work around issues
that do not appear to be bugs that only one user has with their environment.
Generally, we are very reluctant to apply patches that work around issues in
other components, like the OS. It does happen occasionally for browser bugs but
even then only for issues that impact a large number of users.
If you can provide steps to reproduce this on a clean OS install, with the
Tomcat scripts or just a couple of batch files, then I am happy to look at this
further.

This works for me with:
- Server 2003 Ent SP2 + latest updates
- JDK 1.6.0_03
- Tomcat 6.0.14
I can only assume there is something odd about your environment that requires
this fix.
