is NetworkTTL value showing up in any debug log at all?

How could I tell that the value is set up correctly? Do I get a WARN or ERROR
if the value is not big enough for message forwarding btw brokers?

Bit difficult to tell directly - you can set logging to DEBUG - you  
should see messages being rejected by NetworkConnectors because the  
TTL is exceeded
