Running HBase with different versions

Hi all,

I am curious if it is possible to have a version(0.94.7) deployed on
cluster and use 0.94.1 version on client to access it.

Thanks in advance!

Generally, client's major versin should be matched with server. but It can
be accepted with difference of minor version.

Yep. At least the 0.94.x release are carefully designed to have 100% client server compatibility between minor versions.

That said, we sometimes add new features and/or improvements that are only available with the new clients, so an eventual upgrade of the client is recommended (but by no means required).

I agree with JM on this one, minor version should be fine unless there is a
major known issue.  On the other hand, if it is within control you should
always try to match client with server versions.

Hi Sandeep,

Why is this not suggested? Versions in the same major releases are
supposed to be compatible and are tested for that. Can you point us to
any potential risk you found?

Thanks,

JM

Its not suggested, if you try it in production cluster you may lose data or its get corrupted.
