<!-- Answer -->
The execution time for a request can fluctuate significantly when running a long query with a limit of 100 due to several factors:
1. **Query Complexity**: Complex queries can take a long time to run, leading to significant fluctuations in execution time. If a query is too complex or the database is under heavy load, it might be killed after a certain time limit [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/master/superset/sql_lab.py).
2. **Database Load**: The database might be under heavy load, causing fluctuations in query execution time. Running too many queries simultaneously can impact performance [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/master/superset/sql_lab.py).
3. **Soft Time Limit Exceeded**: If a query exceeds a predefined time limit, it might be terminated, contributing to execution time variability [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/master/superset/sql_lab.py).
4. **Fetching Data**: The process of fetching data can introduce variability in execution time. The function handling the query fetches data and applies limits, which can affect the overall execution time [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/master/superset/sql_lab.py).
These factors combined can lead to significant fluctuations in the execution time for a request, even when the query is limited to 100 results.

Closing this as stale, but also since it's largely inactionable. I'm not sure what the symptom is, the description of the issue seems incomplete. If you're still facing this in 4.1.1 or newer, let us know a bit more context, and we can revisit/reopen.
