Details of a new highlighter package are available here:

http://home.clara.net/markharwood/lucene/highlight.htm

Features include:

Yes :-) !

However, I have a few suggestions :

In : public final class QueryHighlightExtractor

Is it possible to split the logic (2 classes ?) which :
a) handles highlighting
b) grabs Query terms (method getTerms and its dependencies)

Also, could it be possible to keep as much information as possible for
terms (i.e. Term objects rather than lower-case termText) ?

Cheers,

I myself would think it would be a worthwhile addition as it is something that I think many if not
most users of lucene would use. I can't speak as to the quality of this particular implementation
though as I haven't yet had the time to look it over beyond a quick check and probably won't for a
week or two.

Not that my vote counts or is relevant at all, but +1 to not including it,
for the same reasons below. Let Lucene focus on what it does best, and
ensure it can support addons and plugins like the highlighter, rather than
folding them in.

to indexing and retrieval.

I'm just thinking that highlighting is not something that is a
necessary feature, so why 'polute' the core that should stay lean as it
is today.
The same has been done with Snowball code.

I don't feel VERY strongly about this, but I do feel that not including

know how to get the highlighting jar and put it in their CLASSPATH.

Hello Developers,
Does anyone know if this package supports highlighting in MultiSearcher
environments? Also what may be the performance implications seeing that
the method query.rewrite(reader) seems to be called twice, one for
querying, once for highlighting.
