[jira] [Commented] (JAMES-3492) Elasticsearch 6->7 upgrade for guice version

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-3492?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17271957#comment-17271957 ]

Benoit Tellier commented on JAMES-3492:
---------------------------------------

Sorry for the late feedback. As far as I understand, the 6.x release line is maintained until 8.0 is released which is not the case yet.

Upon each ElasticSearch updates there are some subtle API changes leading to subttle bugs.

We would likely need to run a compatibility study (can be achieved via a run of the test suite against ElasticSearch 7 ?) The client also would benefit from being updated as well.

Also, we would need to come up with an upgrade plan - the trash-the-data-and-reindex needs an alternative...

Would you be interested to be working on this?

> Guice versions use Elasticsearch 6 that has reached end of life.
> We are thinking about starting to work on this issue but first we need to estimate the effort required. If anyone has any input on this please add a comment. Thanks!
