Where to find the highest version to be installed by "yum"?

Hello,

I have been experimenting with 2 distributions of *SpamAssassin *for my
Linux server:

(1) yum:
based on /usr/bin
Version 3.3.1

(2) from Perl source:
based on /usr/local/bin
Version 3.4.2

The biggest advantage of the former over the latter is that I don't have
to deal with the intricate details of creating files for startup and
shutdown in the directories /etc/rc.d init.d and /etc/sysconfig. "yum
install" takes care of everything. "yum remove" is also very helpful.

Question: Are you folks aware of any 'yum' repository that carries a
version higher than 3.3.1?

TIA,

-Ramon

Version 3.4.2 here, but running on Fedora 31, so using dnf rather than
yum as my package manager.

I think dnf is a considerable improvement on yum, though that was pretty
good too, so you might want to agitate for the distro you're using to
make the jump too.

I stand corrected.  I am running EL7 in a different box.

Agreed. This is what I do for my production MTA.

What version of Linux distro are you using? For RHEL/CentOS 7, SA 3.4.0 is available from the base repo. SA 3.4.2 is available for Fedora, and you can build it from the SRPM pretty easily for RHEL/CentOS 7 with no modifications. For earlier RHEL/CentOS, you should be able to use the SRPM as well... 3.4.2 runs at least back to RHEL/CentOS 5.

The commands to build from the SRPM are really simple, I can try to dig them up but Google will also have plenty of answers.

Cheers.

I'm not aware of any newer yum repositories, but I will say that SpamAssassin is very
easy to build from source.  You only have to create the init.d scripts once and they
will continue to be used for any further updates.  In the 'spamd' directory of the
source, there are sample startup scripts provided for various distros.
