[Issue 125688] New: Autosave hangs, and subsequently crashes OpenOffice

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125688

          Issue ID: 125688
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Autosave hangs, and subsequently crashes OpenOffice
           Product: General
           Version: 4.1.0
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows, all
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P3
         Component: ui
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: ht@qvocal.com

Hi

I don't particularly have a problem with Autosave not autosaving, but when it
also seems to cause OO to crash before I've had a chance to save manually,
that's just not cricket!!

Every time I spend more than about 15 minutes editing a (mostly Calc, sometimes
Write) document without saving manually, OO crashes.

When I recover the documents upon restarting OO, my changes since the last
manual save don't come through.

Have had no trouble of this kind ever before with OO - has cropped up since (I
use the term loosely) "upgrading" from a samsung netbook running XP (perfectly)
to an ASUS Transformer T100 running Windows 8.1. Might also help to know that
a lot of my docs are stored on an external SD card which I've faked up to look
like internal storage.

Hope you can help, and that I'm not duplicating an issue here - did check the
forums pretty thoroughly before coming here.

Cheers
H

Perhaps I'm in the wrong place. I posted this bug report not because I am a
developer, but because I am a user for whom OpenOffice is currently basically
unusable.

Bit alarmed that the only response has been to point me in the direction of
temporary autosave files, when the issue is that autosave stops working, and
saving subsequently makes the whole program fail, sometimes with a proper crash
report, sometimes silently, sometimes with a general access fault.

I am very happy to work with developers to try and pinpoint the problem, but
regrettably I'm not one myself so I'm not in a position to do more than report
the fault and try and duplicate it in a useful way for someone with more
knowledge than me.

If no resolution to my issue is forthcoming, I will regretfully have to
backgrade to bloody Micro$oft, after years of being a faithful and happy OO
user.

:(

Crash must have multiple causes.
You can cure by resetting the AOO profile.
See directly our support forum for more information about it.
You can find others users and get advices for your problem.

If you have access to the computer on which AOO was used to write your SD card,
you may find arbitrarily named temp files of about the correct date and time in
the temp directory.
See pointed to by Tools > OpenOffice > Paths > Temporary files.
Rename these to .odt or .ods and see if they contain useful data.
