What feedback is needed for 1.1-dev?

Hello all,

Although I'm posting this here, I also hope to get the attention of those on the dev-list.

The following was from the recent message http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=xindice-users&m=103606993709533&w=2

What I would like to know, is what feedback is needed on the current development version? I've posted a couple of messages to the lists about what I had done with it and what I had problems with, but I got no response. I would think that this is the type of feedback being referred to. So would the type of feedback that lets you know what people have successfully done help? Should we be asking a general question on the users-list about who is using 1.1-dev and what aspects worked (servlet, used as a library, etc.)? Or should a list of features be constructed asking the list which ones generally worked (xmlrpc-access, configuration of the database via system.xml, etc.). Most of the questions on the list seem to be 1.0 questions or more general issues. It seems that the 1.1-dev issues haven't been touched on enough in user-posts. What do you all think? Thanks for your time.

/S

Just for reference, here are my original postings. I can elaborate more on request.

With respect to this message, it would basically just be generally nice to know what the exact requirements for instantiating org.apache.xindice.core.Database and all of the environment conditions that effect it. The general idea can be gotten from the XindiceServlet code, but a discussion of this might help with recurring problems.

you have their attention (at least mine) :-)

As you may have noticed, a lot of (positive...) things are going on
right now for the project. I hope that we will be able to move the
project into more successful tracks.

If you have sent mails to the list a few months ago, chances are that
they have gone unnoticed. This is the problem with mailing lists: if
you don't have the mails on your PC, it's hard to keep track of what's
going on. And browsing the archive is not the easiest thing to do.

Since more developers are now involved I would suggest you (and others)
to repost your mail. You will hopefully receive a more adequate answer.

If you have found a bug in Xindice, please file a bug report on bugzilla
<http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/>. We can then easily keep track of
the current issues.

We are rewriting the website and documentation and need howtos. The
Tomcat howto is already on Bugzilla and you are welcome to post your
own. If you have installed Xindice with Cocoon, Axis or whatever,
please provide us with a detailed how-to.

If you have modified Xindice to correct a bug, feel free to send your
patch :-)

if the question is about "how to use Xindice", send it to the users-ml.
If the question is about "the internal beauty of Xindice" this should
definitively be in the dev-ml.

If you're not sure, send to the users-ml (since all developers are (?)
subscribed to the users-ml (the opposite is not true, of course). If
it's a developer issue (bug, feature), the mail will naturally be echoed
on the dev-ml. But do not cross-post (sending to both lists).

hope this help

-Vladimir
