Announcement of contribution of HttpService to the Apache Felix project
Firstly, an apology to Enrique that this email did not go out yesterday
as planned.
I am very pleased to announce that the OSGi HttpService, for which I
have been one of the developers, will be contributed to the Apache Felix
project. Richard Hall started the original HttpService in the very early
days of the Oscar project, and even in it's earliest form it provided a
useful bundle which came close to OSGi conformance in a number of areas.
I became involved somewhat later as a result of my firm's needs for
enhancements to provide fuller OSGi compliance in specific areas. At
present, the HttpService conforms pretty closely to the specification in
most, if not all, important areas, and has the benefit of being based on
a first class underlying HTTP server implementation in Jetty.
I shall look forward to working with the Apache project to promote
further development of the HttpService and the OSGi Felix implementation.
Regards

Yes, I think this is an excellent move. Thanks to Rob, HTTP Service is
really usable, so it will be great to have it be part of Felix.
Certainly, I am willing to contribute my portion of it! :-)

p.s. I am traveling in Taiwan (for my wedding reception), so my
connectivity is sporadic, but I am hoping to spend time regularly in
cafes with free wifi over the next couple weeks. :-)

Same here, I looking forward to working with you.
Thanks,

And I even had a cheesy tie-in statement prepared comparing your
contribution, the Apache Way, and United Nations Day (Oct 24). Curses!

This will be a great contribution. I would like to use the HttpService
to embed in servers to provide simple web-based management.
Last I heard Richard was traveling, but we'll get on a vote ASAP.
I'm looking forward to working more with you, Rob, with the HttpService
and bundle building (mangen).
