group files syntax, spaces in group names
Summary: group files syntax, spaces in group names
Product: Apache httpd-2.0
Version: HEAD
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: Minor
Priority: Other
Component: mod_access
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: ttimo@idsoftware.com
I encountered a weird problem while setting up some require group groupname
authentication on my server. Everything seemed fined and yet the access kept
being denied.
After several hours of searching, I found out that my group file syntax was like:
groupname : user1 user2
whereas is should have been
groupname: user1 user2
I know that the docs are saying group: user1 user2 etc.
I understand I wasn't getting any error because apache understands the groupname
with a trailing space 'groupname '. Don't tell me "this is a feature". Who the
heck uses group names with spaces?
What I'd suggest would be a directive that enables spaces in group names, which
would default to being off. This would allow for early catching of the group
file syntax error.
