Apache Flex showcase

Hello,

is there a showcase of applications using Apache Flex?
I did a talk about Apache Flex recently, where a couple of people
requested proofs that Apache Flex is being used in production.

Thanks,

Well a show case...
The logos will be a good idea with url's to the pages when possible and public.(to show the developed flex work)This is a big task...
To create for example on the official site a area to present the companies that are using flex...Problem is if they want this free publicity but for flex would be great.
The biggest banks are using flex, companies that need to present info, data, charts to the clients also are using (for example: http://www.actix.com/), web to print solutions, radio and video streaming, etc...We "just" need to convince them that we should work together!
For example, if one developer have connection to four logos and another one to one logo maybe we get to somewhere...

Miguel,

I do have an B2C AIR application being used by around 6.000 persons.
It's actually compiled with 4.10/AIR 3.8 - we're already taking
advantage of the new lockedColumnCount of Datagrid.

But one story is not enough to convince decision makers. I was asked for
a showcase, as they expect to see enough success stories to make them
believe in Apache Flex. I believe this is essential to generate trust
and rethink their position towards Flex.

So in this moment i am working on this
easyprint.de
a web to print solution. After the user select a type of product you will have a 100% flex application that was lunched in May.And, i can say that after the release 3 months the company receives 200 orders per day average and always raising.
In September i will change to a new client that also is focused in flex, in this moment i can not say the name, but one of the biggest institutions in Europe is working with Flex and still a lot of work to do for the next six years...
In Germany, METRO and EXPERT, have also products based in Flex this is not possible to prove because is on their intranet.

Another example (i hope that they don't get mad but at least is some kind of publicity!)
http://www.actix.com/
This big company is also focused in Flex...
and so on, if you search jobs for flex in uk:
http://www.jobsite.co.uk/
for flex developer, you will see that there is some really good vacancies.
There is a lot of examples, but of course, the decision makers for the new project are the ones that have to choose what language they prefer on their projects. And this will influence the continuity in flex development after the next 3 years.
For my last interview they asked me this:so you think that Flex is a language with Future?
My answer was:Of course, that is why i am here. Because, first you also believe on that or this vacancy will not be possible and second i am sure that we don't have a better tool to create Enterprise Applications.
the mail is already going to long....But, give good examples to the decision makers, make them believe that Flex is the best option. Is part of marketing also.

Either way, Avaya, Acatel-Lucent are my current customers and are deploying
applications on Flex (Flex apps are included in each of their phone systems
for administration). I've worked with Target stores in the past on their
job applications / gift registry application that is in the kiosks in all
the stores (I don't know if they have plans to update past 4.9.1 yet). Our
county's 911 center uses Flex for their emergency response / street mapping
system to dispatch police, health response and fire response.

Interesting stuff.

If you are using Apache Flex and want to be in the showcase, please fill
out a JIRA issue under the component "Showcase". Please provide a
screenshot, link, and a preferred description.

We created an application called Flix for managing pre-production for
movies. It recently went commercial through The Foundry. Flex is the ideal
framework for our project. You can check it out in a recent interview:

I have at least one great public facing Adobe Air desktop application
compiled with Apache Flex 4.10 that can be tried by anyone. It reached
700 clients in 6 months, and we have currently 6.000 trials. I'll be
glad to share for the showcase.

Hi Swen,

IMO, examples are separate from a showcase. If you want to create
examples of how to do things, having your own blog is great and maybe we
can link to it on our site. We will probably build up a set of examples
for our getting started pages and we will need a new set for FlexJS, but
those examples will hopefully be reviewed before publication. If you want
to submit those kinds of examples, adding them to a JIRA issue would be
great as well.

A showcase, IMO, is different. It is a list of medium to large
applications that companies are willing to say are in production and
saving them time and money. IOW, testimonials. A key problem in the
Adobe days was that all of these showcase apps ran behind corporate
firewalls so you could only show a screenshot and describe the app. I'm
hoping we'll find more showcase apps that folks can touch and try from the
showcase web page. That is certainly one of the FlexJS goals: to lower
the footprint of the app such that it loads fast enough that folks can
build consumer-facing web apps without first-timers taking the RSL or
large SWF download hit.

I'm willing to make examples but I think there should be a list of the examples we want to have.
Also I don't know how we should show the samples on the website.

I was thinking of making a sort of kinda like blog-thing for my own.. but making it in the name of Apache Flex and publish it on the website is I think a better way.
I think we should do it this way [1] or this way [2]

I think you have misdiagnosed the problem. We don't have *any* Flex apps showcased up on the Apache Flex website at the moment. Nor, do we have a volunteer to get this content written and images placed into HTML or a live app that is available for a user to play with on some page on the site.

IMO, the problem is that we lack *someone* doing the work - not that something currently being shown has inadequate quality. Is this issue important enough to you to do something about it?

Hi,

I think from "marketing" as point of view we should take care,
that the "showcase" is directly integrated into the official flex website.
Maybe as an iframe.

So flex gets more revenue, as it is a non direct related website.

And:
Someone should review the quality of the provided projects (quality of provided images, logos, description)
to avoid ugly content, or small projects from some "newbies".

"Newbies" sounds hard, but not the quantity, the quality counts.
When a new developer creates a nice first project and there are 20 user ...
this is great, but to promote this project on the official flex sites is not so amazing.

Thanks,
Konstantin

It is good idea to showcase, even i have to convince my client for Apache
flex over HTML5 ;) . If somebody shares some nice GUI then it will be half
done for me.

Hi Om,

Sure. Let me try to expand my board a bit and see if it is possible to
share it so that everyone can contribute.

BTW... My bad in typing my previous email. I mean Pinterest board
instead of Pinboard =.=||

Cheers

Vicker,

That is a fantastic idea. We have been struggling to figure out a way to
start showcasing Apache Flex apps (web, desktop, mobile, etc.) Since you
already are doing something like this for your user group, will you be able
to spearhead this for Apache Flex and help us doing something like this?

I can help you out as needed.

Thanks,
Om

Hi,

Just my 2cents, I think simply making a community contributed Pinboard
with Flex web / mobile app screenshots will attract quite a lot of heat.

As a UGM, I also maintain a list of AIR mobile app Pinboard.

Hi,

we are short before launch of an B2B app for Europe and Africa.
With around 40.000-60.000 users or more.

But I can not say now, if it is possible to "name" the app and the international company behind.

To collect nice projects made with Flex for a showcase,
it would be very nice to have an form / contact, to which we can send the projects informations
like logos, screenshots and the app / project description.

A good application showcase and some evangelization is required to get FLEX
back to the world, but it is less a MUST since the HTML5 remains a
NIGHTMARE world, heheh!!!

We had one on the website, but we had a hard time getting releases from
enough companies to make it worth it. We didn't want to put up a showcase
with only 4 logo / apps on it :(
