Refreshing foreign frames
Hello,
I have some questions regarding the design of refreshing in a framed solution. What I have is...
-----------------------------------------------
logon-frame
-----------------------------------------------
client-frame
-----------------------------------------------
The logon-frame contains some textfields for typing in the login and the password. After the form data has been submitted, the request is forwarded to the logon-page once again to display the user's real name, if the corresponding session scope attribute has been set. This works great.
However, the user's real name can although be set by changing the userdata in some page that is displayed inside the client-frame. After the userdata has been changed, the session scope attribute containing the user's real name is updated.
The update can only be done if the provided data has been validated by the storeUser-Action. If it is valid, both the logon-frame and the client frame need to be updated.
Updating frames using JavaScript is no problem (if you turn of client caching), but this can only be done from within jsp/html code. A workaround for this is to add a session-scope refresh command stack that will be processes by an application tag that generates the JavaScript-code for refreshing the requested frames. That's clumsy and I hate to do this. Is there a better way ? What I am looking for is a way to force the refreshing of frames from actions and not from jsp-pages.
Regards
Nikolaus
