[jira] [Created] (RIVER-400) Script for Generating Release Notes and Incrementing Version Numbers

Script for Generating Release Notes and Incrementing Version Numbers
--------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: RIVER-400
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RIVER-400
             Project: River
          Issue Type: Wish
          Components: build
            Reporter: Tom Hobbs
            Priority: Minor

Rolling a release is pretty easy (I've already started scripting it) but one part of the release process is much more difficult.

River has a significant amount of release notes which are divided up into components in some places and summary information in others. It would be good if it was possible to feed a script/Ant/Java/whatever the new version number, have this process pull all the changes from Jira, generate/update the release notes and increment all version numbers in all files - of which there are many.

The script could also then (maybe) move any non-closed Jira issues into the next release - or that can be left as a manual task.
