SSLHandshake + retry

Hi All,

We are currently using HttpClient 3.0 in production right now. For some reason, we continuously receive a large amount of initial SSL Handshake Failure exceptions after which httpclient retries the request automatically and then is able to connect. I was wondering what possible scenarios/reasons are there as to why it fails the first time and then connects on the retry so often. Basically, I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed this behavior before?

I pasted the log trace below (we continuously receive the following three log statements in our system out):

  [5/23/05 8:48:34:592 PDT] 36cd0e78 HttpMethodBas I org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodBase Stream closed
[5/23/05 8:50:06:954 PDT] 7f3c4e50 HttpMethodDir I org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector I/O exception caught when
 processing request: SSL handshake failure
[5/23/05 8:50:06:954 PDT] 7f3c4e50 HttpMethodDir I org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector Retrying request

Thank you,
Kumar Kota

As with all Maven enabled projects they can be found on the Website
under Project Info > Dependencies:
http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/httpclient/3.0/dependencies.html

Kumar,

HttpClient fully relies on external libraries (per default on the JRE's
default JSSE provider) for SSL support. Any SSL related problem is most
likely to have nothing to do with HttpClient as such. Are you using Java
1.5 by any chance?
