   I was looking at this issue, and the [referenced file](https://github.com/apache/couchdb/blob/master/src/couch/priv/stats_descriptions.cfg). It seems like there are units referenced in the description:
   
   
   ```erlang
   {[couchdb, auth_cache_hits], [
       {type, counter},
       {desc, <<"number of authentication cache hits">>}
   ]}.
   ```
   Or were you thinking something like
   ```erlang
   {[couchdb, auth_cache_hits], [
       {type, counter},
       {unit, Integer},
       {desc, <<"number of authentication cache hits">>}
   ]}.
   ```
