SA3.0 non-root install

  I've installed all the necessary perl modules and want to install
SA3 in a different location. I tried
perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/someplace/sausr SYSCONFDIR=/someplace/saetc
make 
make install

but when I try to start spamd, it looks for the Mail/SpamAssassin.pm 
module which I don't want to install. Is there a way around this?
