Incoming mails for different host

Hi,

I have a requirement where our mail server could receive mails for
different hosts(e.g. abc.mydomain.org, xyz.mydomain.org,
pqr.mydomain.org ), one way to achieve this is adding <servername>
element in <servernames> tag. But if we have a large host name list(may
be in thousands) then maintaining all the hosts in config.xml may be a
problem. I was looking at possibilities for wildcards like
*.mydomain.org. It is possible to provide wildcards for <servername>.
Any other suggestions from the group would be most welcome.

Thanks and regards,
Gautam

Re: Incoming mails for different host

Hi,

This a continuation of my problem that I have mentioned in the mail below.

When I send a mail to a host which is not configured on my james server
I get a reply back as,

Message from yahoo.com.
Unable to deliver message to the following address(es).

<inbox@some-name.mydomain.org <http://us.f603.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=inbox@morbid.pinet.org&YY=26036&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b>>:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 - Requested action not taken: relaying denied
Giving up on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.

This is a expected behaviour as I have not configured this
some-name.mydomain.org in my configured.xml.
I have gone thorugh my config.xml file and found the above error message

550 - Requested action not taken: relaying denied

in my config.xml which is commented.
<!--
     <mailet match="RemoteAddrNotInNetwork=127.0.0.1, mail.picorp.com,
164.164.12.114, morbid.pinet.org" class="ToProcessor">
            <processor> relay-denied </processor>
<notice>550 - Requested action not taken: relaying
denied</notice>
     </mailet>
-->
Could I trap this mail in a mailet ? How do I trap mails which are not
for the local host domain (like some-name.mydomain.org). In the
config.xml, there is a comment that says,

<!-- These servernames are used for both matcher/mailet processing and
SMTP auth -->

does that mean all my incoming mails to my james server should have the
host specified in the <servername> element for proceeding to my custom
mailet ? Could anyone point me to the design documents of James, as how
incoming mails are processed in different processors, or their order of
processing.

Help from the group would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gautam

adding a user

Posted by Gautam Borah <ga...@picorp.com>.
Hi all,

I was looking at the possibility to add users programatically without
using the RemoteManager(telnet to the server). Could I add a user to the
mail server from inside a mailet. I would probably add a admin user to
whom I could send a mail for adding a user and that mail I could trap
using a custom matcher and forward it to the mailet for processing. In
my custom mailet I could add a user to the mail server. I understand it
is not a standard approach. But does james exposes some add user
interfaces for adding a user dynamically.

Thanks,
Gautam

remote java admin client for James

Posted by Gautam Borah <ga...@picorp.com>.
Hi,

I am running james and it is working fine for me. For adding a user to
the mail server I am using telnet to connect to the server and then
adding users. Is there a way in James such that I could add a user
programatically, say using java program. Is there a remote admin java
client for james that works over the network ?
Any pointer from the group would be appreciated.

Thanks anf regards,
Gautam

Doesn't exist. Will probably be addressed in some fashion in a later
version of JAMES.
