getIndividualWidths() of TextPosition returns 0

Dear All,

 I have come across a document where the method 'getIndividualWidths()' of
class 'TextPosition' returns 0 for each element despite the method
getCharacter() returning some characters.

 May I please know what is causing this behavior and how to correct it?
