Hi
the new version of pootle went online a moment ago.
Thx to jsc the last translations are in the server. Jsc is still
controlling our po files and how we shall use the server.
There might be minor issues the next couple of days, so please mail the
list if you find things that are not as the should be.
One of the most important features is that you as user can upload/download
po zip files (NO .mo files)
In about 2 weeks, I will look at if we can optimize the database (I need
usage to check what to optimize).
Looking forward to see pure green arrows for all languages :-)

But I haven't a scooby what a JIRA ticket is or indeed where to find it.
Searches are recursive and all lead back to
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INFRA/translate+pootle+service+auth+levels
and Google searches don't throw up anything obvious either.
In particular https://issues.apache.org/jira/ gives me Error 404.

I agree it is important....but translations are just as important as code,
and we would not open our code so non-committers can change what they want
? For code contributions the committer is supposed to use a special comment
to give the credit, maybe translator-committers can do the same with the
note field.
I hope everybody is aware the the credit is only available in pootle,,,not
in our svn, which is the original, so in other words no-one can tell how
long the credit survives (clearly inside a release window the db will not
be reset).
I dont have too much experience, but I would think, the active
committer-translators knows who the active potiential committers are
without a statistic.

I understand that we can have more one profile in this case, Jan, or
best, we need rethink this. I agree that if a new translator arrives
and starts helping with suggestions is fine. But how credit his
contribution? This mensure is important (IMHO) to justify an
invitation of this contibutor to have a "upgrade" to commiter.
Today, i can't see a way to this.

Yes. I agree with you again, but i see important to have the channel
for non-programmer give his contributions and the respective credits
and recognition.

This is a very important because the step we have taken is in the grey
array of what can be accepted, and I am pretty sure it will be monitored
how much we allow non-committers.

I did my best to migrate all translations that were done on the old
server since we have migrated the data first.
But I have to say that we lost some data who made specific translations
because of problems with the translation index that I had to regenerate.
Jan worked hard to fix some further server issues and he will continue
to keep an eye on it ;-) He did a great job and I am happy that we now
can use the new server. And I am looking forward to the new translation
process that will hopefully improve the overall situation again. And
will reduce the manual work ;-)
Thanks to Jan and all other volunteers who have already started or of
course already finished the translation for 4.0.

we should add that people can request an account for Pootle via the
mailing list and we will handle this on demand. The advantage is that
their suggestions are under their name and not under nobody. But they
don't have further rights at the moment. Their suggestions are handled
in the same way as patches and have to be reviewed by a committer.
We take translation in the same way serious as normal coding work. But
we keep following our approach to propose active translators quite fast
as committer. We need people who speak a language to be ale to review.

I think we should call for as many as possible volunteers. We have
already some further languages added in the 4.0 project. And I will add
further languages on demand (if somebody steps up and want to start) or
over time.
NOTICE: we will definitely have one further update of some string at the
end of the week. But that shouldn't be a big problem and can probably be
handled via he Pootle server completely.

Excellent. This is a good step forward. Thanks to Jan and Juergen
for making this happen.
Two questions:
1) Do we need to update anything on our current intro to translating
page, or is this information still accurate?
http://openoffice.apache.org/translate.html
2) Is there time enough still to go forward with calling for
translators for some of the other languages that are 90%+ done, that
were not included in AOO 3.4.1? Or would that put too much stress on
the system? We could also do a language refresh later, like we did
with 3.4.1, if that makes it easier.
