Proposing kafka-0.7.0-incubating release candidate 6
Hi,
Based on the feedback from people on the RC5 vote, it seems that the
binary distribution has the right content, except for the jars in
boot/test.
That means, for end users, the binary distribution will work
out-of-the-box. For developers, they can checkout the source revision
and run unit tests, build the code.
The plan for RC6 seems to be cutting a new revision and fixing the
contents of the binary
distribution. It will be good to include the following JIRAs too -
KAFKA-192 CompressionUtilTest does not run and fails when it does
KAFKA-195 change ProducerShell to use high level producer
If you have any other comments, please reply here.
Thanks,
Neha

Yeah, I agree with Jun about KAFKA-195. Also, maybe we can leave
KAFKA-192 out, after all it just fixes a unit test.
Thanks,
Neha

As part of KAFKA-195, we added an example producer property file (which is
used by ProducerShell). This will really help a user understand how to
configure a producer (sync vs async, compression codec, encoder, etc),
without having to look at the source code. So, I recommend that we include
the patch in KAFKA-195 in RC6. I agree that KAFKA-192 is less critical and
doesn't have to be in RC6.
Thanks,
Jun

My two cents: I recommend we limit changes to just the essentials at this
point. Neither of these new items seem like they can't wait until the next
release.
