It would be very nice if the user could see something while downloading artifacts from a repository.
I was quite frustrated because Eclipse seems to hang during "Building workspace". Only with a network sniffer I saw that a lot was happening in the background.

Eclipse's progress bar stopped at 27% for a really long time.
In the Console View lines like these were repeated (I think for every artifact being downloaded):

It is being shown on a standard Eclipse Progress view. You can see other background activities on Maven console as well.
