[VOTE] Release Apache YuniKorn 1.8.0-RC1
Hello everyone,
I would like to call a vote for releasing Apache YuniKorn 1.8.0 RC1.
There are some changes compared to the beta release that was made.
* yunikorn-web:
- angular update for CVE fixes
* yunikorn-core:
- quota preemption is off by default
- fixed a race condition around placeholder releases and preemption
The release artifacts have been uploaded here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/yunikorn/1.8.0-RC1/
My public key is located in the KEYS file:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/yunikorn/KEYS
JIRA issues that have been resolved in this release:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?filter=12353913
Git tags for each component are as follows:
* yunikorn-scheduler-interface: v1.8.0-0
* yunikorn-core: v1.8.0-1
* yunikorn-k8shim: v1.8.0-2
* yunikorn-web: v1.8.0-1
* yunikorn-release: v1.8.0-1
Once the release is voted on and approved, all repos will be tagged
v1.8.0 for consistency. The helmchart and convenience images will be
uploaded after the vote has passed.
As per the pre-announcement there will be no plugin image uploaded
we will not deliver that as part of the YuniKorn 1,8.0. Please see the
deployment modes documentation [1] for details.
Please review and vote. The vote will be open for at least 72 hours
and will be open until at least Thursday 29 January 2026, 22:00 UTC [2]

The builder was migrated as part of YUNIKORN-3073 [1]. The output path
did change because of that.

I did in fact find the issue and created https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YUNIKORN-3214 to track it (and marked as a release blocker). After the upgrade to Angular 20 in YUNIKORN-3073, the web UI is generated with a browser/ subdirectory in the output, breaking integration with yunikorn-scheduler. I've opened https://github.com/apache/yunikorn-web/pull/250 for the fix.

1. Verified signature and checksums
2. Built using make REPRODUCIBLE=1 on Linux/amd64 and verified all binary checksums match
3. Installed locally on baremetal Kubernetes cluster
4. Attempted to verify yunikorn web UI. UI was unavailable, and only a filebrowser interface showing the following was present:
3rdpartylicenses.txt
browser/
prerendered-routes.json
Something seems amiss. I updated my local helm chart to deploy yunikorn-web 1.7.0 (with scheduler 1.8.0) and everything worked fine.
Also, we still seem to be building scheduler-plugin after deciding previously that we would not ship those binaries. I thought there was a PR to skip building it in yunikorn-release?
