SolrCloud core.properties transient property

The documentation for core.properties states that setting transient to
true is not recommended in SolrCloud mode.

Why is this not recommended?

Thanks,
Ryan

Because it's totally untested in Cloud mode. The whole transient core
functionality was
put in for non-cloud setups.

It's vaguely possible that it'll "just work", but there are a host of
untested assumptions in
that statement. One "for instance":
Let's say you have a node that is getting a request and the core is
not loaded. Let's further
say that loading the core takes long enough that the timeout is
exceeded (this is very easy
if the suggester rebuilds it's FST on startup, see:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-6845). Will SolrCloud mark the whole
node as "down", then throw it into recovery? I don't know.

So if you feel like being the first to try this, let us know how it goes ;)....

Your best chance of having this work would be with a lot of small, fast-loading
collections but even then I'd tread very carefully.

Best,
Erick
