I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

The current release of mono does not run properly on MacOS X 10.4. I haven't even reached the point of building Lucene.Net or testing it.

The version of mono in their downloadable VMWare virtual machine (SuSE 11) also exhibits problems. That would make me hesitant to use it.

BTW, the email was sent through ConstantContact - a well known email

Yes, I got it too. It is ironical that this company has luminaries like
Yonik, Grant et al. I would expected them to have known better than use this
forum for promotional purposes.

As a new project regarding lucene and embracing the open source business
model i wish them all the best, especially when there are some people in the
project that without them lucene would not be the same, however, i think
that would have been better if they just post the same announce that they
post in the java list in this one.

It is bad form - the addresses can only be harvested by belonging to the
actual list itself. You could expel people from the list, if you could
find them, but it would be simple enough for them to reregister using
fake details, so I don't think there's much point.

Perhaps the list could be configured so that the real from addresses of
people aren't displayed, like the web archives do?

Certainly means I won't be using them though!

Dear XXXX,
The purpose of this email is to introduce you to Lucid Imagination, a
new company that was launched on Jan 26, 2009.

Lucid provides commercial support for the Lucen/Solr deployments at
companies like: AOL, Apple, Comcast Interactive Media, and Zappos.

---------------

This is the only list I subscribe to with my work address, so I'm
guessing they harvested it from here somehow?

Anyone else get these? Atleast they have an auto-unsub option....

Cheers

Cool. Is there a "list manager" for this list? Or someone at Apache who
handles this kinda thing?

Bad netiquette, tho most people don't seem to give a d**m about that
these days.... maybe I'm just old skool.

I'm not a .NET person myself (though once upon a time I was an MCSD),
but we will consider supporting Lucene.Net from a business perspective
given demand for it, so if you're interested contact me. Indirectly,
efforts in the Lucene Java space benefit Lucene.Net as improvements
trickle through to new versions here, so you can count on us
LucidImagineers in that capacity already.

First of all... I humbly apologize to the community for my company's
ridiculous "marketing" (spamming) effort here. I myself got 4 copies
of the mail, and the first one I saw I e-mailed our real marketing
person (not the marketing firm that sent the mail) and let them know
how unhappy I was with it. I noticed the misspelling right away, and
typos in official communications drives me personally nuts. It was
sent without me or the other community members that work for Lucid
having proof read it or authorizing any of the addresses it went to.
I'm not sure how they culled the list of addresses it was sent to -
but obviously pulled from the community somehow.

On behalf of Lucid - I'm sorry.

In an attempt at a little damage control, please look past the
marketing faux pas and realize that Lucid is made up of techies that
are right here on these mailing lists and care strongly about
bettering the entire Lucene open source ecosystem. If you have any
questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (and I'll
pass anything you'd like up to our management team).

RE: Anyone else get the email from Lucid Imagination?

Yes, they spammed me too, and they spell 'Lucen' wrong, so it's a
brilliant first impression.

Subject: Anyone else get the email from Lucid Imagination?

Eg:

---------------

Dear XXXX,
The purpose of this email is to introduce you to Lucid Imagination, a
new company that was launched on Jan 26, 2009.

Cheers
