Re: Problems with Xerces 1.6 (Also MSXML 4) and Schema attributes

Hi,

out of the Schema Primer http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-0/ :

"There are a number of caveats concerning the use of global elements and
attributes. One caveat is that global declarations cannot contain
references; global declarations must identify simple and complex types
directly. Put concretely, global declarations cannot contain the ref
attribute, they must use the type attribute (or, as we describe shortly, be
followed by an anonymous type definition). A second caveat is that
cardinality constraints cannot be placed on global declarations, although
they can be placed on local declarations that reference global
declarations. In other words, global declarations cannot contain the
attributes minOccurs, maxOccurs, or use."

RE: Build question

Posted by "Endre, MAGYARI" <en...@nextra.ro>.

Getting closer, but:

[endre@mx bin]$ ld -L/usr/local/lib/ -Bdynamic -l xerces-c1_6_0 -o Udm
../Udm/*.o ../Udm/UdmBase/*.o ../Udm/UdmDom/*.o ../Udm/UdmUtil/*.o
-Bstatic /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/egcs-2.91.66/libgcc.a
ld: warning: cannot find entry symbol _start; defaulting to 0804d940
[endre@mx bin]$ ./Udm
bash: ./Udm: No such file or directory
[endre@mx bin]$

[endre@mx bin]$ ls -la Udm
-rwxrwxr-x 1 endre endre 8379349 Sep 13 02:49 Udm
[endre@mx bin]$ ldd Udm
/usr/bin/ldd: ./Udm: No such file or directory

This is rather strange. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Endre

You're mixing static and shared libraries. Usually works, but can
occasionally be difficult I know.

Try putting -Bdynamic before -lxerces and -Bstatic before the section
containing the .a.

So something kindof like this

ld -Lpath1 -Lpath2 -Lpath3 -Bstatic -lstatic1 -lstatic2 -lstatic3 -Bdynamic
-lxerces

I've had this problem before, and I think this is how I eventually resolved
it. If this doesn't work I will go hunt down those makefiles and double
check it (now I build everything statically, including xerces, so I avoid
those problems)

Thanks for your answers.

Here's the deal:

[endre@mx bin]$ ld -L/usr/local/lib/ -lxerces -o Udm ../Udm/Udm.o
../Udm/UdmCppH.o ../lib/Udm/UdmBase.a ../lib/Udm/UdmDom.a
../lib/Udm/UdmUtil.a
ld: cannot find -lxerces

 the so was there:
[endre@mx bin]$ ls -la /usr/local/lib/libxerces-c1_6_0.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3633536 Sep 12 23:48
/usr/local/lib/libxerces-c1_6_0.so

the .a files are static libs, The .o files are objects files, the main for
instance is defined there.

What did I do worng?
Thanks,
Endre

There are several ways. Since you are unfamiliar with how libraries work in
UNIX, probably the best way for now is to add a line like this to you link
command

ld -Lpath_to_directory_containing_the_so -lxerces -o executable_name

where ld is you linker (gcc can also be used). As long as your link line
doesn't contain the words -static in it anywhere there shouldn't be any
problems. When you run your program you will need to set your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to the same path as you put in the -L
command. There are more elegant solutions, but this is probably the easiest
way. If it still isn't clear, send the commands you are typing in, and
someone should be able to help you get the correct command.

Brad

Dear list,

I am porting an application from Win32 using Xerces 1_6_0.
I was supprised that I did not find any .a or .lib static library
in the binary distirbution for linux. (There are .lib files in WIn32
binary distributions). All I found was a .so.

If anyone could help me how to link against that .so shared
library, that would be excellent.

I have tried using ld -shared, but it did not work.

Thanks,
Endre
