Performance cost of socket appender

Howdy,
Has anyone benchmarked the performance cost of having a socket appender
with nothing listening on the destination server/post?   I would expect
it to be low (the connector thread plus the usual LoggingEvent
construction, threshold analysis, etc.) but still I'm curious as to
actual benchmarks.
