What do you mean by "ApacheDS logo instead of Apache Directory logo" ?

Well, I have to say that I "hate" the currently selected logo :-) And
also I do not understand why we use a ApacheDS logo everywhere,
instead of a Apache Directory logo..

Re: [Logo contest]

Posted by Emmanuel Lecharny <el...@gmail.com>.
Ok, I have tried to refine the votes. The idea is to give 3 points for every
first choices, 2 for a second choice and 1 point for a third choice.

Here are the results :
C11 : 12 points (4x3)
B2 : 9 points ( 3 + 3 + 2 + 1 )
A1 : 6 pts ( 3 + 2 + 1 )
C6 : 6 pts ( 3 + 2 + 1 )
B1 and C12 : 5 points ( 3 + 2 )
All other : < 4

I guess that, like in every democracy, we can select the two leaders and
organize a secound round ?

What I suggest is that pam and Ersin apply the current new template on all
the sites (main site, ads 1.0 and 1.5, tripleSec and LdapStudio), with
either logo C11 or logo B2, and you will be able to make your final choice.

wdyt ?

Ok, I didn't vote yet, so here is my choice : C11.

I also have gathered the 8 votes up to this morning jan, 31st, 8h37 UTC :

Have voted :
Alex, Trustin, Alan, Martin, Stefan(1), Pierre-Arnaud, Stefan(2), Emmanuel

MIA :
All the others :)

Results, so far :
C11 : 3 votes
A1, B1, C6, C10, C12 : 1 vote

So far, we have a leading logo : C11

When should we close the vote ? Can we consider that tonite 0UTC is
correct ?

like trees too. ;-)

I like B2, though I think it could use a darker tree (like B1's).

Also, to comments that it doesn't make a good logo, if we need
something small and square, like a 32x32 (app icon, favicon), then
perhaps we could use a darker tree and circle like B1's, but without
the text bar.

It has been changed : the TLP is Apache Directory , then you will have
Apache DS for 1.0 and 1.5 and TripleSec and LdapStudio for, guess what ...

Yes we need different logos. One for ApacheDS and one for Apache
Directory the TLP. Ersin noted this ... we're using the ApacheDS logo
that people like for all projects.

Interesting point. Someone had mentioned making a subproject for an
enhanced for embedding version of ApacheDS to differentiate between the
stand alone server product from a scaled down embedded version of it.

Might be something worth considering.

Re: [Logo contest]

I'm having a tough time deciding. I like the inverted tree of C11,
but I wonder if the branding we want is as "Apache DS" or "Apache
Directory" or "Apache Directory Server". On the main site,
http://directory.apache.org, it's called the "Apache Directory
Project", of which "Directory Server" is a subproject.

If we put aside the branding issue, I like C11 the most and B2 second.

I think the question of branding is an important one, because whatever
is put in the logo is probably how people will refer to the project,
be it as "Apache Directory Server" or simply "Apache Directory". For
my money, I like just "Apache Directory" because there are cases where
the directory parts might be embedded in other applications as a
backend and not be used in a server mode. Saying "Apache Directory
Server" implies to me that it is only a server application, not
necessarily something I could embed.

Just my 2c.

I think this is just about everybody. Perhaps we can here from Enrique,
John, and Richard Wallace and a couple others. Then we can close this up so
we can release the new site style sheet with the logo.

I guess we can always replace the logo on the site so it should not hold us
up. Is everyone OK with that?

Great work on the logos!

I like C10 the best. C8 looks too much like the yellow pages logo
and might attract attention from trademark lawyers.

Re: [Logo contest]

I figure I'll rate the 3 best in order of most favored to least favored.

C11, C9, A1

FYI I like the tree logos in series B but the problem is Directories
have an inverted tree for namingContexts so this did not seem that good
an option because of that.
