[users@httpd] htaccess or virtualhost question...
hi,
i wanted to ask a question about configuring an htaccess file (or something
else similar) that allows a certain directory in my /html/ structure to only
allow connections coming from certain sites.
for example, the log output looks something like this
123.45.67.89 - - [08/Mar/2003:21:31:50 -0500] "GET /hello/index.php
HTTP/1.0" 200 945 "http://www.something.com" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE
6.0; Windows NT 5.1)"
i want ONLY connections from something.com (the referrer) to connect. i am
NOT concerned about the IP address of the user.
is this a possibility? if so, how?

I know this is possible to check using a CGI, I don't know if it is possible at
the apache config level.
You should bear in mind that the referrer information is very easily forged, and
so this offers almost no security.
Will.
