users of web service

I am new to web services. But involved in developing some web
applications.
So I always try to see how web services are different from web applications:
Following is something that I found: Please correct me if I am wrong:

The clients of a web application are people who do not need to know any
programming..they just need to know how to operate the computer
whereas the clients of web services are programmers.

An end user can never see the existence of a web service...web service may
be called by the application but that is always hidden from the end user.

Please corrrect if I am wrong....and plz let me know some more differences..

infact sometimes, i feel that there is no similarity between web appliation
and web service..

Thanks,
SSSS
