Allow gmane postings

Anyone against having gmane allow postings to the forrest-dev list via
gmane?

Cocoon-dev, Ant-dev, Incubator-general, etc all allow it, and AFAIK
there have not been problems.

Because you are subscribed. But I don't want to recieve the Forrest
messages from the ML if I am using gmane... can I subscribe and not
recieve mails?

I'll leave that to Nicola to decide, in any case it might be possible by
try to subscribe to forrest-dev-subscribe-mod@xml.apache.org which
should be sent for approval to the list owner (I don't know who that
is). If that doesn't work, just send a mail to apmail@apache.org stating
your intentions.

I did two things:

1 - I made gmane allow postings from gmane to this list
2 - I added myself to the allowed ones by sending a mail to
     forrest-dev-allow-subscribe@xml.apache.org

2 would have sufficed, but I learned of it only after 1 was done. IIUC
it won't have impact on our lists as the list is still subscribers only
from here.

We already have two: Steven and me. So we had the planet covered via
Australia and Europe. It has been working fine since the list went
subscriber-only. However, if you guys want to open the list up then
that is okay by me. We will see if there is any difference.

I will remain as a moderator for a while longer, but we will need
someone to replace Steven ... how about you Cheche. There really is
nothing to it. If there is spam, then delete it, otherwise reply to
the autoresponder to let the mail through.

I recall that i took over from him. Anyway i would rather let Nicola Ken
spend his time on other things.

can you have more than one moderator?

I think that we could spread to more than one person.
I would like to propose Nicola Ken as the is the master on the mailing
lists:

messages posted by 'Nicola Ken Barozzi <nicolaken () apache ! org>'
(4615 msg) up to 2002-03-03.

Life is good without spam to moderate. :-)

Seriously: with sometimes 50+ moderation mails a day for the other lists
I'm moderating as well, I'd like someone else to take up moderation for
Forrest then.

You can ask to be added to the -allow list, however, that way you can
post but do not receive mail - just send a mail to
forrest-dev-allow-subscribe@xml.apache.org IIRC.

Oh well... probably because they rejected it instead of just letting it
pass by ;-P

As other projects son't seem to have this big issue, I'd like to give it
a try, and maybe swith moderation to use a new compact representation
that is now used for tomcat... what do the moderators think?

I've posted to forrest-dev through gmane before. Do you mean, allow
non-subscribers to post? If so, wouldn't that apply to everyone, not
just gmane posters? IIRC anonymous posting was switched off after the
moderators (David & Steven I think) got tired of spam.

Gmane has good anti-spam it seems.

:-) Excellent point. Doing it then.

Negative:
SPAM?
Pointers to the docs an FAQ?

+1 We always can remove it if it does not work
