   The change to add more information in the output seems out of scope. I'm not necessarily opposed, but it's getting muddled with the minimal change needed to accomplish the original goal, and should be considered separately.
   
   As for the thrift API... I guess I'd expect only the server-side implementation to change... rather than convert this to a client-side operation. This leaves the most flexibility in terms of changing the implementation later if we want, and keeps all the changes minimal.
