two-nodes-two-vms-test failing

Hi again!
To start examining the different deployment options with SCA, I tried to
run the itest "two-nodes-two-vms-test".
I try to start a server and a client node in two separate JVMs on one
and the same computer.
Unfortunately, starting the client fails with the following exception:

What could be the reason for something like this?
A second question related to the above mentioned test is where in the
SCA 1.1 specifications the format of the server-config.xml and
client-config.xml files, both with a <node> root element, are documented?
I am currently suspecting that some configuration in those files need
to be changed in order for the client node to be able to locate the
server node, for instance the domain="http://domain1" attribute on the
<node> element.
Thanks!

How to un-serialize the SDO object using a specified Context?

Posted by ext2 <xu...@tongtech.com>.
By default, Tuscany sdo's implementation will choose the default context to
un-serialize the sdo.
But how to specified the context to do un-serialize?
If there is no standard way to do so, a special Tuscany SDO API will be
preferred.

Thanks any suggestion

It seems that the binding.jsonrpc extension code needs to populate the
absolute URI upon endpoint publication. I'll take a look at that.

Re: two-nodes-two-vms-test failing

Posted by keinmensch <ke...@mailhaven.com>.
Hi again!
First I want to share the cause for my own "two nodes in two VMs"
program failing:
I forgot to include the following prior to starting the client and
server nodes:
String theBindingType = RMIBinding.TYPE.toString();
System.setProperty("org.apache.tuscany.sca.binding.sca.provider.SCABindingMapper.mappedBinding",
theBindingType);

Of course I have more questions regarding the different types of
bindings I can use between the nodes: :-)

First, is there any documentation of the format of the client-config.xml
and server-config.xml files?

Second:
I tried to change the binding type from RMIBinding to JSONRPCBinding and
also added the following line in the client-config and server-config.xml
files:
<binding name="sca:binding.jsonrpc" baseURIs="http://localhost:8080
https://localhost:8082"/>
Starting the server is no problem, but when I run the client I run into
the following exception:
Caused by: org.jabsorb.client.ClientError:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: URI is not absolute
    at
org.jabsorb.client.TransportRegistry.createSession(TransportRegistry.java:121)
    at
org.apache.tuscany.sca.binding.jsonrpc.provider.JSONRPCClientInvoker.invoke(JSONRPCClientInvoker.java:55)

    at
sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25)
    at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597)
    at
org.apache.tuscany.sca.implementation.java.invocation.MethodEventInvoker.invokeEvent(MethodEventInvoker.java:43)
    ... 13 more
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: URI is not absolute
    at java.net.URI.toURL(URI.java:1080)
    at
org.jabsorb.client.TransportRegistry.createSession(TransportRegistry.java:116)
    ... 23 more
However, if I replace the target attribute in the <reference> in the
client with an uri attribute containing the absolute URI of the service,
things works as expected between the client and server. I don't consider
this a solution, since the point in this case, as far as I understand,
is dynamic discovery using Tribes.
Enough questions for today!
As always, thanks for all the help!

Hi

Good news that it worked for you eventually. Bit worrying that is
seems that maven didn't pull the correct set of dependencies. We'll
keep an eye on this as we'll shortly be thinking about the M5 release
and doing builds with empty repos so will be testing this.

Regards

Simon

(although it's obviously difficult to be 100% sure. Assuming I get a
clean build this morning, taking all the changes from the last couple
of days, I'll push some new snapshots out.

Hi!
Ah, I have been unclear:
I downloaded the snapshot but then I I let maven pull down dependencies
from repositories. Thus, I am not compiling Tuscany 2 myself.
When trying this, I used the following environment:
Apache Maven 2.2.0
Java version: 1.5.0_22
OS name: "mac os x" version: "10.5.8" arch: "i386" Family: "unix"

I do have Java 1.6.0_17 selected and installed, but Maven tells me it
uses 1.5, as above.

I suspect all my troubles may be related to OS X, though I do not know
the reason. I should get a Windows or Linux box.
I did check the Hudson report for the snapshot I downloaded and there
are no tests failing, so obviously the code is working somewhere.
As usual, by now :-P, many thanks!
 Ivan

Ok, I'm getting a clean build with the trunk code at r916328. I'm on
WinXP SP2 / Sun JDK 1.6.0_07 / Mvn 2.2.1

When you say "I am using the latest 2.x snapshot downloaded yesterday
or the day before." are you pulling down the snapshots from the maven
repo or are you compiling the source yourself? If you're pulling down
snapshots I can publish some new ones to make sure we're working with
the same code.

No sure. Am just trying to get to the stage where I have a clean build
so I can confirm if the trunk code is good.

Hi again!
I have, for the moment, given up on the extracted test and focused on
trying to run the itest using Maven.
When I issue "mvn test" in the two-nodes-two-vms-test directory, it
fails with the following exception:

How come that the class ExtensibleDomainRegistryFactory is missing?
I am using the latest 2.x snapshot downloaded yesterday or the day before.
Best wishes!

Ok Ivan

Let us know what happens.

I have extracted the test and turned it into two separate Eclipse projects.

The server seem to start up without problems (or at least so it seems);
there is a web service published.
When I start the client, I see that there is an UDP package sent out.
I suspect that something in my local configuration that prevents the
package from reaching its destination.
I am going to look into this when I have a little more time.
Again, many thanks!

Hi Ivan

Is this failing for you when you run the itest as is or are you
running the separate parts of the test manually?

The contents of the client/server-config.xml file were inveted by
Tuscany. They are aren't defined in the specifications. We needed
somechere to hold configuration that determines what the the default
protocol configuration for remote bindings is and what the default
domain and domain registry URI were.

There has been some discussion recently about the utility and form of
the domain and registry URIs so I expect they will be changed but in
the code at the moment, and in this test in particular, you can see
that domain registry uri is being used to specify configuration for
the distributed registry that's used under the covers to copy endpoint
information between JVMs. This particular test is configured to use
the Tribes software to do this for us. It's based on discovering
remote nodes using multicast so it should work without specific
configuration assuming that you have multicast enabled. There is a
similar test configured to use Hazelcast.

Simon
