unable to deploy with servicemix 4.5.3

I copied my installer files to the deploy directory but nothing happens. I
see no error or info messages in the logs, no signs of the zipfile being
extracted anywhere. Am I missing something?

Yes, exactly.

If it's a valid and correct SA ZIP (not a SU).

But you have to use the jbi or full distribution to do that.

dropping the .zip file into the deploy directory?

If you use servicemix-jbi or full, we have a deployer for the SA zip file.

Apparently the deploy directory is for OSGI bundles only and it's not
possible to deploy a JBI service assembly like that. So I guess the question
comes down to: how do I deploy JBI projects in servicemix 4.5.3?

I've tried with a JBI service assembly and a custom JBI binding component
.zip installer files.
We have used them with Service Mix 3.11. Now we have upgraded and ported all
our projects to Service Mix 4.5.3.
