Install in Ubuntu 11.10

I want to install AOO 4.0 TA, and test Tamil translation in Ubuntu 11.10.
Is it possible?

I see your point, Kadal, though I'm no fan of Ubuntu and prefer other
distros. What galls me is that Ubuntu make it so very difficult for
the non geek inclined to download and install software that they
(Canonical) have not authorized. Not even Apple makes it that hard to
download non-Apple software.

I can not leave Ubuntu for the sake of AOO. I can live with LO. But for
want of this the testing of AOO-TA is going very slow

I actually had similar experiences and so went the easy route and dunked Ubuntu and upped an alternative.

Re: Install in Ubuntu 11.10

Posted by Kadal Amutham <vk...@apache.org>.
Thanks for the support of Jan I , Ricardo, and Michal Hriň.

My priority to is to install the environment where I can build, AOO-TA. If
I could not install AOO, it does not matter. My machine is dual boot having
XP / and Ubuntu 11.10. It is bit old desktop, I could install Ubuntu 12.04.
It gave some problem. So I am living with 11.10.

I want the environment in Linux since, each build runs for 3 hours. I can
do some other work if it is Linux. A link was given to me giving a step by
step instruction to install the environment.

In a day or two, I will be moving out of this location and I will come
back a week or so. So I can wait for some time to resolve this issue

I use ubuntu 12.04 and a couple of other versions. You can do it with
apt-get but it is painfull because you have to guess the package names (not
all are libreoffice or openoffice). Synaptics take care of all dependencies
so with that its a one click operation.

Not sure.

Try this:

sudo apt-get purge openoffice*
sudo apt-get purge openoffice-*

(this option will show some errors but, at the end it may remove office)

or you can replace openoffice with libreoffice, I can't find which packages
was in Ubuntu 11, cause it's unsupported.

Or you can try install synaptic as Juergen wrote, but I think that
Cannonical don't
have Ubuntu 11 repos online, or it is I don't know where.

sudo apt-get install synaptic

I think that you can't install anything from Ubuntu Software Center, am I
right ?

Re: Install in Ubuntu 11.10

Posted by Kadal Amutham <vk...@gmail.com>.
You very well know me I am not a software geek. I tried to remove LO from
Ubuntu Software Center. It failed. I did not use synaptic package manager.
And I tried install AOO twice along with LO. I could not do it.

Can you make an attempt via teamviewer?

With Warm Regards
