                 Key: INFRA-2706
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-2706
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Sub-task
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
            Reporter: Antoine Levy-Lambert

Let me write down some notes .

I found some references of users who did some uploads to nexus using ivy

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.apache.incubator.ivy.user/5652/match=nexus
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.apache.incubator.ivy.user/3426/match=nexus

Wondering whether I will have to declare the gpg signatures as artifacts too

Excellent, if it didn't report any errors, when you closed, then it looks like everything is in place. All you have to do now is right click and choose promote and then within 4 hours those artifacts will be in central.

Ok, so ultimately what needs to happen is we need to get a pom, jar, javadoc jar, sources jar created, have them gpg signed and then deployed to rao. For the deploy, this is essentially just an http put, so you can use whatever you want for that, or ivy.

I'm not an Ant expert anymore obviously so I can guide you but you probably know best how to fit it into the existing ant build.

Antoine Levy-Lambert commented on INFRA-2706:
---------------------------------------------

I logged in on https://repository.apache.org using my ASF credentials and saw that the upload has been after all successful.

I see this by opening the staging directory under org.apache.ant.

The only thing is that the artifacts are present twice, once under org/apache/ant/1.8.1 (strange, wrong) and once under /org/apache/ant/[artifact]/1.8.1 (expected)

Maybe I am the one who did the wrong upload to org/apache/ant/1.8.1 because I remember that at one point I realized the distribution artifact pattern in my script was wrong.

Next question : I did not upload .sha1 and .md5 files, which are generated by ivy, because I assumed that nexus would generate them automatically. Is this OK, or do I need to upload these checksum files ?

Regards,

Antoine

We have another problem.
I see that the ant 1.8.1 artifacts have been published to central, but the maven-metadata.xml files now mention only 1.8.1

I looked here for instance
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/ant/ant/maven-metadata.xml

I remember that 1.7.0 and 1.8.0 were listed previously.

Do I understand well that for maven users, only versions listed in maven-metadata.xml can be downloaded ?

Regards,

Antoine

Hello Brian

we do not generate javadoc and sources jar for our artefacts. We generate a complete javadoc and a complete source zip for ant itself.
I can do the http put if you tell me the parameters. Does this require authentification ? Is auth with my Apache LDAP credentials ?

Antoine

Is the person or program doing the upload supposed to provide these maven-metadata.xml files or are they generated by nexus ?

Ok so if you didn't close or drop the repo after the first attempt, that explains why they are there twice. As long as the repo is open it will continue to gather artifacts coming from the same user + ip + user agent.

You should drop and start over.

On the sha1/md5 yes you should deploy those as well. While Nexus can regenerate them, it's better to have them from the client so we can detect any errors in transit to Nexus. We will have a staging rule shortly to validate that they are present and correct for this reason.

So is your previous message on the "CLIENT ERROR: The server has not found anything matching the request URI url" issue resolved?

We really like to see individual sources and javadocs so that they can more easily be debugged in an IDE but lets not dwell on that for now. The http puts would be against https://repository.apache.org/service/local/staging/deploy/maven2/ as the base url and then add the path like org/apache/ant/1.8.1 etc as you would do in the old static repo.

The auth is your apache ldap credentials. I need to configure the repo to accept ant artifacts first, I'll reply once that's done.

The artifacts will also need to have a gpg signature as I mentioned above. The expected format is ascii armored and foo.jar has a signature of foo.jar.asc (this is for all artifacts that get uploaded including the pom).

Hello Brian,

the vote results are positive with 11 +1s.

I am not lucky in my first attempt at publishing, here is what I get :

Maybe this is an ivy usage problem. Let me know.

I installed also a nexus repository on my computer at home and had the same problems.

Regards,
Antoine

I see a vote is underway for this. Let me know when you have the results.

Also it would be great to create some docs for Ant/Ivy based Apache projects to use the repo. Similar to the maven ones here: http://maven.apache.org/developers/release/releasing.html

We can add a new page and then move them to someplace generic for all projects to refer to regardless of the build system.

I have cancelled my previous upload by using the drop function in the web interface of nexus.

I have redone an upload without any error/warning messages and which is successful. Then I have accessed the Web interface of nexus on https://repository.apache.org and selected the close context menu entry on my upload.
