   This feature appears to have been implemented. A `HoodieIndex` backed by the metadata table's record-level index partition is present in master:
   
   - `org.apache.hudi.index.SparkMetadataTableRecordLevelIndex` (Spark)
   - `org.apache.hudi.index.SparkMetadataTableGlobalRecordLevelIndex` (Spark, global variant)
   - `org.apache.hudi.index.record.HoodieRecordIndex` (engine-agnostic, in `hudi-common`)
   
   Originally landed via PR #8758 / [HUDI-53] (commit `62d4cc0`, *Implementation of record_index - a HUDI index based on the metadata table.*) and extended in follow-ups such as #13603 (partitioned RLI) and #13741 (index definition for RLI). Closing as completed — please reopen if a different metadata-based index was intended.
