encrypted LDAP authentication

Hi All,
I am working on to install a Apache server that authenticates against a
LDAP server. I am using mod_auth_ldap for that purpose. However I am running
into the issue of encrypting passwords.

I am basic http authentication against a LDAP server.

>From Client to the Apache server the LDAP passwords are usually trasmitted
in plain text. Is there a way to encrypt the passwd when they are being
tranmitted from client to the apache server?

Thanks
