authentication does not happen

Running 1.3.22

If i have in my httpd.conf
ScriptAliasMatch ^/orders/jter/(.*?)$
/home/vshopper/public_html/cgi-bin/viewOrder.cgi


and i try to add basic authentication to viewOrder.cgi it will not work.  If i
have basic authentication on the /orders/jter is still doesnt work.

The ScriptAliasMatch seems to destroy the ability to to basic authentication.
