Print Range.
I use Open Office Calc 3.4.1 with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
I have a very simple one-page spreadsheet, but the software wants
to print out this sheet plus a second sheet which is blank. I know I
can set the print range manually each time I print it, but I would like
to avoid this step permanently.
Can some kind person suggest how I can correct this apparently
simple but very pesky problem?
Fred

Fred I've had similar problems and have frustrations with Calc's printing
as a result. My solution to unwanted blank pages has been to do the
following...
- delete any empty sheets in the workbook
- go to the last data column then select the column to the right to the
last column in the sheet and delete the columns
- go to the last data row then select the row below to the last row in the
sheet and delete the rows
- clear the print range if any is set
- save the spreadsheet
Phantom pages are no long printed.
Don't know what is going on but suspect there is some value or attribute,
visible or not, in the deleted sheets/columns/rows that's causing Calc to
print the extra page(s).

Hi Brian
I picked up your name from a mail to other OO users and will be grateful if
you are able to assist with my problem.
In Excel you are able to have a number of different spreadsheets open and
display them side by side using the Arrange commend which is found on the
Windows tab. This enables you to copy and paste data between the sheets with
ease. Does OO have a similar feature.
Many thanks
Dave Bridges

Possibly not: you have the evidence in front of you but anyone
reading your message doesn't. It becomes something of a guessing game.
Surely the fact has to be that you have something - but we cannot
tell what - beyond the range of cells that you intend to use and
print. Possibilities are:
o cells containing blank strings - as distinct from genuinely empty cells
o cells formatted to show contents in the same colour as the
background - and therefore not show them
o cells containing formulae - even if these evaluate to a null string
o non-empty cells in hidden rows or columns
You will be able to identify the rows or columns that are being
included inappropriately in the default print range. If you delete
those rows or columns (so that they are replaced by genuinely empty
ones), won't the problem go away?
I trust this helps.

Go to File --> Page Preview
Select Format Page and the Sheet tab, tick the Grid option and press OK
Now you can see what the last Column and Row is that is printed, this
cell could be a non empty cell as Brian suggested.
Couple of things you can do.
Just delete all rows and columns that you don't need.
or Close Preview (don't forget to undo the Grid option) and Define a
print range under Format --> Print Ranges

Thanks for your kind words Fred. You're welcome. Glad I could help.

Alan:
Thank you so much for the prompt, polite, and helpful
solution to my simple pesky problem.
I had forgotten that OO prints sheet one and then sheet
two /just to the right of sheet one /and sure enough, guess
what, there was a number 1, yes just the single digit 1, in
one of the cells of the sheet just to the right of my so-
called on-sheet spreadsheet.
Problem solved.
Thanks again for your relevant and spot-on help.
