<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><b>ISO Codes</b></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">Languages are handled within the
buildsystem using ISO Codes. As discussed in Issuezilla Task #i8252#
we support a subset of RFC 3066 [1] for the language identifier.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">RFC 3066 basically says:
<br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
1. Use ISO 639-1 [2] if possible <br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
2. Use ISO 639-2 [2] if no ISO 639-1
code exists <br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
3. Use ISO 3166 [3] country code if
necessary,
to separate to languages with the
same language code, e.g. US English and British
English.
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">This means we'll have these codes for
example:</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">ISO 639-1 sv Swedish
<br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
ISO 3166 en-US US English
<br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br>
To prevent matching problems, languages
with identical language and coutry code like “de-DE” are
reduced to the language code “de”. Currently the build
environment don't support ISO 639-2.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><b>Resourcesystem</b></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">The OpenOffice.org source code contains
several file types, where strings and messages are declared:</p>
<br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
*.src / *.hrc : Contains main UI strings
<br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
*.xrm: Contains readme strings
<br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
*.xcu: Contains configuration strings <br style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
*.ulf: Container for strings converted
to several custom formats (.rc, .par)<br>
*.xhp: Contains online help strings<br>

</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">The interface between the source code
and the translation tooling is the so called sdf file format ( also
know as gsi ). The sdf intermediate file format is introduce here: </p>

<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">Note that this format is strict and
should not violated. You can use the tool “gsicheck” in
the module transex3 to perfom simple format checks. Deviant to the
sdf file format, the language column have been changed from numeric
language identifier to ISO Codes.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">In the source files are only English
and German strings. There is a sdf file particle called
„localize.sdf“ placed inside each directory, which
contains all other language strings. </p>

    <p wrap>If you want to have some UI language or locale configuration options in your
    own build,
    you need to create a file called Linguistic.xcu that needs to be placed
    in the directory:</p>
    <p wrap>
    <a href="http://util.openoffice.org/source/browse/util/officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office">
    officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office</a></p>
    <p wrap>Note that this file cannot be committed to the common source, as
    it is the same name for all languages, and should not contain contradictory
    statements.</p>
    <blockquote>
      <p wrap><b>Note: </b>This is not entirely true. You actually can
      accomodate contradictory settings in this file, which then are
      distributed to multiple files during the build. But you have to make
      sure only one of these files is installed. Thus, if the scp part is
      conditionalized appropriately, this could be included into the
      common source. But in a normal build, without special-purpose
      configure options this should not be included. </p>
    </blockquote>
    <p wrap>Working on options can be complicated; you really need to
    know what you are doing. If you are not sure, you should probably
    subscribe to the <a href="mailto:dev@installation.openoffice.org">
    dev@util.openoffice.org</a> mailing list and ask there. </p>
    <p wrap>As an example if you were planning to create an English (en_US)
    and Khmer (km) bi-lingual build, the installer would work in English,
    and the default language for OOo when it started the first time would be
    Khmer... but
    if what you want is that
    -once installed- the system starts automatically in Khmer (UI in Khmer
    by default), using Khmer
    locale by default and selecting Khmer as the CTL language by default,
    then you need to change the configuration.</p>
    <p wrap>In this case, your Linguistic.xcu file would have to include:</p>
    <p wrap>&lt;?xml version=&quot;1.0&quot; encoding=&quot;UTF-8&quot;?&gt; <br>
    &lt;oor:component-data xmlns:oor=<a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://openoffice.org/2001/registry">&quot;http://openoffice.org/2001/registry&quot;</a>

    <blockquote>
      <blockquote>
        <p wrap><b>Note: </b>To allow multiple contradicting values to

    <p wrap>under XCUFILES.</p>
    <blockquote>
      <blockquote>
        <p wrap><b>Note:</b> If you have added the install:module
        attribute, you (additionally) need to add &quot;Linguistic-km.xcu&quot; to
        MODULEFILES. More generally you need to add &quot;Linguistic-XX.xcu&quot;
        for all XX you used in the install:module attribute to
        MODULEFILES. </p>
      </blockquote>
    </blockquote>
    <p wrap>&nbsp;</p>
    <p wrap>--------------------</p>
    <p wrap>Add an entry for the file in file
