DBCP seems slow

I recently got DBCP working, it took forever <sigh>.

I went back through all my Factories to make sure all the connections
were being closed.

BUT now my web app seems REALLLLLLLLY slow, like way slower than what
it was when only opening and closing a single connection.

Should this be expected or is something screwed up?????
